Specific hygiene procedures and practices assessment : a cross-sectional study in fresh fishery product retailers of Lisbonâs traditional food markets
Research Areas: Food Science & TechnologyThis study aimed to assess the compliance of specific hand hygiene and food contact
surfaces hygiene in fresh fishery product retailers (FFPR) and its relation to socio-demographic
characteristics that might influence the observed procedures and practices. A cross-sectional study
was conducted in traditional food marketsâ FFPRs (N = 74) using interviews and audits for data
collection purposes. Results revealed that women were overrepresented among FFPR managers;
most were over 50 years of age and had a long working experience in fish retail activities, despite
a low educational level. The majority had attended training courses in food hygiene, safety, and
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points-based procedures. Both documental assessment and
hand hygiene procedures and practices verification revealed a low level of compliance. Many
documents supporting hygiene practices were lacking. Several non-conforming requisites were
identified related to the handwashing procedure and equipment and to glove wearing practices. A
higher level of compliance was obtained in food contact surfaces hygiene procedures and practices
verification, with complete hygiene procedures applied and proper cleaning of utensils and chemical
products management in several cases. These findings reflect an ambiguous understanding and
misconceptions related to hygiene procedures and practices, suggesting the need to improve and
update FFPR food handler training regarding basic food hygiene and safety.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Assunto esse Ășltimo atravĂ©s do qual procura-se demonstrar que o judiciĂĄrio funcionou como uma areia de disputa na qual livraram-se mĂșltiples batalhas.: The present article is an edited version of one of the chapters of my doctoral dissertation EtnografĂa de las prĂĄcticas y procedimientos en la justicia penal durante la Ășltima dictadura militar (1976-1983) (An Ethnographical Account of the Practices and Procedures of the Criminal Justice System During the Last Military Dictatorship) (2008). My research was centered on the analysis of a judicial file known as the âJudicial Morgue Caseâ. This case was initially tried toward the end of the military dictatorship after a presentation made by the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS) that denounced that, between 1976 and 1980, following the orders of military authorities and without the intervention of a judge, the judicial morgue had carried out autopsies, extended death certificates and ordered the burial of many corpses of persons detained or missing. My objective is not to show the caseâs development and its many implications but to analyze the different marks left by the judicial bureaucracy through its diverse documents and resolutions, as well as the explanations on different types of procedure offered by the employees and physicians of the Judicial Morgue and the Cuerpo MĂ©dico Forense (Forensic Medicine Bureau). All these elements, which were also used as evidence by lawyers of CELS, allowed me to piece together most of the story. Concerning the work of CELSâs lawyers, my work also aimed to explain the particular characteristics of the political strategy developed by this human rights organization, whereby judicial disputes spearheaded its efforts and served as the main basis for action. By this, I would also like to show that the judicial system was an arena where multiple conflicts were fought.Fil: Sarrabayrouse Oliveira, Maria Jose. Universidad de Buenos Aires. The ethnographic research with files in the field of judicial bureacracies
This article aims to reflect about ethnographic work with court files in the realm of judicial bureaucracies. In order to achieve this, I start off by using two field situations that refer to two different moments in my career as a researcher and have been rebuilt from opposite paths: in one case, a fortuitous "finding" and family stories from my childhood bring me to the encounter of a filed proceeding in the Judicial Morgue Museum; in the second one, inversely, the starting point was an emblematic court case for crimes against humanity that lead me to some narrations, rumors and testimonials which originate it. I propose to analyze both situations because I understand that they allow us to problematize and discuss the difficulties and specificities that work with files introduces, at the same time that it invites us to think about the material used for its elaboration.Fil: Sarrabayrouse Oliveira, Maria Jose.
This study analyzes the best warehousing location for sugar exportation in the state of Sao Paulo using the railway transportation. A mixed integer programming model was developed and its results indicate some trends for localization and capacity of these warehouses. Four scenarios were elaborated and they showed high competitiveness of the intermodal transport compared to the alternative of road transportation from the mill to the port. It was also confirmed that there is a possibility to increase the market share of the railway transportation for Sao Pauloâs sugar exports.intermodal transportation, railway transport, sugar market., Agribusiness, C61, Q13,
The role of an illiquidity factor in the Portuguese stock market
This study examines the role of illiquidity (proxied by the proportion of zero returns) as an
additional risk factor in asset pricing. We use Portuguese monthly data, covering the period
between January 1988 and December 2008. We compute an illiquidity factor using the Fama and French [Fama, E. F., and K. R. French (1993), "Common risk factors in the returns on stocks and bonds", Journal of Financial Economics, Vol. 33, NÂș. 1, pp. 3-56] procedure and analyze the performance of CAPM, Fama-French three-factor model and illiquidity-augmented versions of these models in explaining both the time-series and the cross-section of returns. Our results reveal that the effect of characteristic liquidity is subsumed by the models considered, but the risk of illiquidity is not priced in the Portuguese stock market
